View Full Version : Friggin' Computer!!!
Right, here's the thing:
When I go Online, I normally play BlackNova. Right, that's half the problem: It's ****ED!
And, since it's ****ed, I decide to play DiscWorld Noir/ The Sims.
You guessed it. They're ****ED!
I've ran myself into a corner in DWN, solely by an error in the software, and both DWN and Sims crash all the time!
The music starts to skip, then it boots me back to the desktop with no boxes, error meaages, or anything!
PS Can anyone help me with the Crashing probs?!

O.K., then, onto a bit of diagnostic info.
What O/S are you using?
How much RAM you got? Wot's your CPU speed?
Have you recently run Scandisk from DOS?
How much rubbish you got in your Temporary Internet folder? How much rubbish you got in your Windows/Temp folder?
How's your virtual memory configured?
Can you put an arrow on your avatar to show us which bit of the moon you now own? (Unless it's on the dark side......:upto: )
They don't sell the Dark Side Shame, really.
But I'll have a go.
BTW I'll get back to ye on the rest.
The moon in my Avarat is at the wrong angle for me to accuraltely pinpoint my piece.
BTWI completed DiscWorld Noir, so I only need crash advice for the Sims.
Double click "My Computer" on yer desktop, then double click "C-Drive", now put everything that's NOT in a folder into a new folder & call it "Guff" or something like that.
That should help you out with the crashes...........if not go back into "C-Drive" and delete the stupid little folder that says "Windows" on it, you dont need it anyway.......there you go!!.....Your computer will never crash again!!!
(whispers behind hand, never work again either mind you..... )
*Loops voice; "What was that ace1? "
*ace1 replies(looking innocent); "Oh, nothing Loop old buddy!!! " :upto:
Will that work?
The "Spare files, stuff into folder"? Or do assorted programs need them there?

HANG ON ONE GOD DAMN COTTON PICKIN' MINUTE!!!
Your CD is scratched and covered in sticky bits, isn't it? That is the problem - that's why the music skips as well.
Poor old CD-ROM drive can't read the sodding disc.
CORRUPT DATA ALERT!
CORRUPT DATA ALERT!
AAOOOOOOOOOGAAAHHHHHH!! :D
Andy: It's not, oddly enough...:head:
Still having the problem, people (and I use the term loosely).
All help appreciated.
Just thought I'd tell ye...:
I Uninstalled it all, and re-installed it all. It assked me to Restart. I didd.
Bang went my computer. I couldn't access ANYTHING!
Ten minutes later, I turned my computr back on, and besides a mass of error messages it works.
But The Sims still crashes.
I reckon it's the game's fault.

Loopus, restart in DOS and type in the command,
scandisk/all
You may have bad sectors on your hard drive which need to be marked and the data, if recoverable, moved to safe sectors. This will take an hour or two so allow plenty of time.
If many bad sectors are found, back up your data fast and consider a new HD ASAP.
Failing that, it could be snot on the laser.........:jestera:
I've run ScanDisk, and considering I use Windows ME, I can't rerstart in DOS.
And I HIGHLY doubt it'll be "Snot on the laser"...
Oooo, its pure murder when you've got snot on yer laser........even worse if you've got cum on your..........??
Quite.
Getting a fair few KERNEL32.DLL errors which I don't know how to fix...
Actually, I'm getting a lot of .DLL errors in general!
Any ideas?

pls dont kill me for saying this but is your disc a geniuine copy?
as for the kernell errors i had aload of them once and about a month l8er c:/windows was deleted and i couldnt startup. i can tell you moving 8000 files to floppies through DOS before formatting and rienstalling hundreds of programs wasnt pretty :(
if you have a CD-RW take all IMPORTANT file and put them on 700/650mb data CD's and uninstall everything bar windows etc etc then format your Hard drive and unplug everything
cut of power to things like monitors etc so they are omcpletly isolated
leave it a day or so
plug in BARE isentials like monitor mouse an keyboard
(dont even bother with speakers!)
start up your CPU and Install windows on the empty HD
now install everything EXCEPT the problem programs again
put your stuff back on your computer etc etc
THEN
disable AUTORUN and insert the problem CD.
open it up so you can see al the directory's and open all the files.
make sure you can open them all
i find osmetimes when a program screws with my Hard Drive you can topen osme of the files becouse they ar ecorrupt
if you find any files to have problems or Explorer crashes while trying to access one your CD is corrupt and ther is yor Problem
btw make sure you have all your programs CD's before uninstalling em
Well, my CD IS genuine, unless WH Smiths is doing something they shouldn't...
As for the errors, since I installed Internet Explorer 6, they seem to have disappeared.:wtf:
STILL problems with the Sims; recorded a new one today- It'll freeze for a few seconds, then the computer restarts. :wtf:
I reckon it's the game. I'll ask Maxis about a Patch.

I think the heart of your problem is having installed Windows ME. A bit of a backwards step for Microsoft, that was.
Also, as Ace1 was suggesting, cum on your hard drive can really mess things up, creating the above-mentioned bad sectors. You really must try to avoid such intimate contact with your PC if you expect it to function correctly.
As ME ain't got DOS support, how do you fdisk and format? Please do your bit for society and educate the thick, if you will....
Back up your data and re-install. your system is crap.
Do you have all your stuff on one partition? If so, try to partition to two logical drives, using C: for all programs and D: for data only. Choose the sizes carefully - you don't want the C: drive to ever be more than about 3/4 full.
Immediately after installing Windows and drivers, set virtual memory so that min = max = 300Mb and restart as prompted. This will create a contiguous fixed area on the HD for swap file use, which won't become fragmented with time.
If you've overclocked your CPU or graphics card, then accept a slapped wrist, as that won't help.
Finally, if anyone has bothered to plough their way through this waffle, then this is indication that your life is even more pointless than mine.......
Happy new year!
:head:
In English, please?
BTW I don't format etc, my Dad did. The fool kicked the bucket before he taught me how to fix this damn grey box!

I didn't understand a word of that andy, what good is that to people like loop?:D
Btw,ME is a lot better than 98 and XP going by polls. :wtf:
Well,I say XP knowing that only 5% of people who have it actually have a high enough spec machine to run it on.Very cheap move by bill gates, forcing you to buy the product then forcing you to buy more upgrades just to use a second rate OS.frosty :wtf:
Anyway, the errors for the rest of the computer have leared up, so I reckon it's the game.
Still getting errors from BlackNova, but I can deal with 'em.

Ok andy has finaly gone off his rocker!!!!!!:jestera:
:wtf:
I knew this day would'st arrive...
'Tis time to rally my army of Lycanthropes, and protect the world from the threat of this Alien Invasion.
Huh, never thought I'd be saving the world...
OK Loop, but who's gonna save it from you once your troops have run riot?:D
Ah! A hithero-unseen advantage!
Do you let the World be overrun by strange alien creatures from the back of beyond, or allow my army to fend them off, which may or may not result in my domination of Earth?
Decisions, decisions...

Fear not, oh Ace1, for we shall allow him free victory. While His Foulness and his renegade army of Lycanthropes are rejoicing in the overthrow of Gaia, I will descend upon the earth and wreak vengeance in a manner not witnessed here for 12,000 years. He will surely rue the day he ever challenged the superiority of my race...... :wtf:
Ah, though speaketh pretty, but thou art pitied...
We serve no God, least of all, Gaia. We serve naut but the Moon Spirit, which inhabits all Lycanthropic beings, and all with ties to it's bounteous beauty and monolithical importance...
Lee's Dad

I fear thy ideals are flawed, oh Foul One, for I have held council with the Selenites, upon whom falls the duty of navigation and repair of the craft thou speaketh of as the Moon, and lo, they have heard of thee not. Thy influence is as to the summer breeze unto the great oak. They fear thee not.
Thou shouldst tremble, as doth the mountain when Gaia spaketh, at the arrival of my kind once again into this galaxy.
Hast thine only Spake?!
Dost thou think that we, the Lycanthropes, are naut but a backwards civilisationlesshaul of mongrels?
We grew wise from thine trickery ever since the Moon changed from it's deathly Red hue to the colour 'tis now.
Whilst it may be true, it holds a sillouette better, 'tis not the True Moon!
We took measures...
This is anger management, not a time machine.
I'm opening this again, cos whilst it did go off-yopic, I'm still having problems.
Lee's Dad; If you like, we can continue the War-Talk elsewhere...
Everyone: Any ideas on what's the problem?
