Sony have shown the PSP (Playstation Portable) in action for the first time at the ongoing Game Developers Conference - an annual 4 day event helf in San Jose, which ends today.
Death Jr., a PSP exclusive by Backbone Entertainment, is an action based platform game, using the ever more common cell-shaded visuals, and looks set to be confirmed as a PSP launch title.
The PSP stands a good chance of taking control of the Handheld market now, with its specifications released recently revealing that polygon for polygon, it has more power than the Playstation 2, which is far more powerful than Nintendo's Gameboy Advance.

sounds like a interesting game, seen the screenshots too and the graphics are pretty damn good considering it's a handheld. It's gonna be hard for Nintendo very soon...

Hmmm, still a few things that are worrying.
1). The Game gear had much better graphics than the Gameboy yet it didn't go on to beat it, infact it failed quite spectacularly. So better graphics doesn't mean better console.
2). Battery life. This thing has a motor in it and motors chew batteries at quite an amazing rate, combine this with what must be quite a power hungry CPU (especially if it's producing better graphics than the PS2) and you may not have very much gaming time.
3). Whats the point? The GBA is supposed to have PSone quality graphics yet because of it's screen size they always look pretty rubbish. Is the PSP going to be able to solve this problem?
4). Software, I don't want a string of straight from PS2 conversions or worse still do what Nintendo has done and convert older games for it.
5). Is it a games console, is it a video media player, is it an IPod in disguise? Traditonally systems that try to do a bit of everything rather than sticking to doing what it does best tend to end up failing. Ngauge anyone?
However.
Sony took the home console market by storm and the so called "inavitive" Nintendo DS (Two screens? I still haven't been able to work out what the point of it is?) could be Nintendo attempt to steal some thunder from the PSP. Mind you Nintendo hasn't had much luck with it's so called "inavitive" products anyone remember the Virtual Boy? I think Nintendo are scared and they should be!

I have faith that nintendo will still live, just that psp will give it some competition. As long as they don't do what nintendo did and put their old games back on the gba. (except for FF7, which I would love to have on PSP)

Its all of them, and if your whining about a system saving you money on buying 4 different things then your a moron. It has great graphics, you can listen to your favorite songs on it, you can watch movies and then you can take pictures. If having all of these are a bad thing then GBA should have never even made it onto the market, cause its obviously crap compared to this.
Sony has always had better games then Nentendo and the retards that say Game Cube has better graphics are, well RETARDS. You can have your own opinion and all, but not when its that wrong.
And batteries won't be much of a problem because from what I hear they have a plan for making them more energy effiecient then GBA or SP, both of which, well suck.
Oh sure they have a few good games, but I do the smart thing and emulate them so you don't waste money on something that can die in the middle of a game or an important part. So I just emulate it, I don't give a company which are Jack"Idiots"ess, and don't know how to make games.

Word of life. Gamecube is where it's at. Besides look at the GBA SP. Opens like a laptop, battery lasts for hours and can be recharged, has a built in screen light, small enough to fit in your shirt pocket. What is better? Nothing else.

A good old piece of paper and a pencil would be the best. No electronics needed.

I agree with everything in that post exept the last line.
However Nintendo comes out with, rather, Majesco, comes out with the GBA Video thing? Who wants to watch a TV show on a GAME SYSTEM???? I know: my five year old cousin. Is the PSP going to do all that? It puts Video games to shame. Why would you WANT to watch movies or shows on a game console?(I.e: PS2. I never use my DVD player in ther PS2. I might start though.....) The Game Cube and Nintendo have done one thing with their systems: Games.

Indeed. The games the PSP already are more interesting then the DS IMO, also the PSP actually looks decent I'll actually play it out unlike the GBA/DS which be honest look kinda horrible.
