Ubisoft and Microsoft have released a minor auto-update for the latest Splinter Cell title, which addresses a show-stopping multiplayer bug that managed to infiltrate the final build of the game ahead of its release last Friday.

Judging by the recent surge in Xbox sales (it outstripped the PS2 by a few thousand units in the UK last week) and the game's position at the peak of the Top 40, the bug doesn't seem to have done either company's prospects any harm, but we'd imagine they are both relieved to see the back of it.

The bug, for those who missed it, came about in the multiplayer menus when players used the Optimatch search to try and track down games using specific parameters. This they could do perfectly well, but the problem arose when they hung around on the results screen for more than ten seconds, at which point the game would lock up irretrievably.

In a statement released yesterday, the two companies apologised for the inconvenience and wished you all "fierce and exciting" multiplayer bouts of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.

They also confirmed that this problem has taken precedent over other issues raised by the game's fan base in the first few days, but promised that another auto-update due in the near future "will fix all known issues and improve on some features".

With the Xbox version now working to at least 99 per cent capacity, it seems safe to point out that the PC version is due for release tomorrow. Dates for the PS2 and Cube versions have still to be confirmed, but given the nature of the franchise we don't expect to hear much before they sneak up behind us and raise a blade to our throats.

To all those that thought online consoles wouldn't mean rushed bug filled games released just to coincide with release schedules with patches being released at later dates to fix them look above and see the errors of your way.

Thanks MS we knew you could do for the console market what you did for the PC market, now all I need is a console OS that uses 90% of my system resources just to do nothing and crashes if I so much as look at it funny.

Oh and June for the unbugged PS2 version.

What a dumbass you really are, sephiroth :D Firstly, it's one minor bug, and on XBox Live only. The game how most people will be playing it is completely bug-free, and secondly, the XBox Live bug was down to Ubisoft, not Microsoft

Was a brilliant game even with the bug, because I never experienced the bug ma'self anyway :D And even if I did, it only takes 20 seconds to reset the console until its loaded again and you're already logged back in to XBox Live :thumb: Since i've had my XBox, the PS2 loading times have made me very impatient because of how much quicker the XBox loads things :O

Thanks Lord E because I didn't already know the exact details of what the bug was. :sarcastic and in no way was I using hyperbole to prove a point :sarcastic

But since you clearly love your XBox so much  I'll placate, and say that online consoles and bug patches will no doubt be common place for all the next gen consoles. I used MS here since it is

a). Relevant to the topic in hand
b). Not unfamilar territory for MS.

Oh and if the PS2 load times make you THAT impatient maybe you should cut back on the caffiene?

You make it more and more obvious that you don't have an XBox every time you've posted lately :thumb:

Indeed I don't have an XBox, I will never own an XBox or an XBox 2 / Xenon either, MS has all the money in the world, the fact they don't own the console market is a testimont to just how poor the XBox must truly be.

What a truly weird statement to make, Sony have had dominance for years in the console maret and no machine, no matter how good it is will ever overtake them, the only way another console would gain dominance is if Sony pulled out of the hardware market which let's be honest, is never gonna happen. :wtf:

Why is that a weird statement? For the best part of a decade the console market was owned by Sega and Nintendo, along came Sony and smashed both of them in one go, if Sony can do it what reason is their that MS couldn't have done the same?

Oh and Lord E a fanboy is a person solely dedicated to their own console, since I have no problem with Nintendo's GC (even owning one for a short period of time). I would even recommend it as an alternative to the PS2, so how exactly can I be a fanboy? :head:

Simple... you're a fanboy because you're a fanboy :wtf: And the reason Sony came along and kicked the **** out of SEGA and Nintendo was because the SEGA and Nintendo systems of that time weren't as good as they could and should of been.

But since the Playstation, every new console has used the best possible technology available because the companies making the consoles are putting more money into them just for competition purposes - but with Sony's following, nothing will replace them commerically now.
