I wonder if he actually didn't know any of that stuff or he was just screwing around for some reason. I've taken some pretty tough classes in college...and I've had tests where I got below a 20%. Like if you study a ton for certain parts of the chapters, but the whole test is on something you didn't even know your class covered.

Cept in situations like that, my mood turns more towards anger than sarcasm...in the form of ripped tests, holes in the paper from pushing down on the pen as hard as I can, and sometimes swear words on the test directed towards the professor's teaching philosophy.
