So here I am, it is quarter after 10 AM on a Sunday and I look at the bottom of the index page of GG. Users Online: 4 Members and 62 guests.

Whoa....62 guests. Some are browsing through forums, only few are looking at the index and a number of them are looking at profiles of existing members (I suppose word of my handsomeness spread :D ).

So if that is accurate....good job getting hits, team :thumb:

Because not all of them are guests. Most are, as Scott said, search engine spiders.
The "Who's Online" pages used to show which ones were spiders, but it doesn't any more.

doesnt vb have the same, to avoid having them logged as guests?

If anything, we should want them, just shows that our pages are getting trolled through, and are gonna be sitting nicely on Google etc. for people to find.

It's what makes search engines work. It goes around, logging the content of pages so it can bring it up whenever someone searches for it.

The most ever peeps online record was broken just a few weeks ago its now 82 I believe.

Gamers-Gateway is more popular than ever with regular posters signing up every day.

And the 5000 signup mark soon to be broken ... granted most peeps just sign up and never come back but some do.

spiders are good, as scott said they index our pages, mostly google spiders which is what most people use. and as has been said, we did have round about 20,000 members but i culled that figure as most were non posters, i'll do that again before i go. a couple of years ago our who's online record was about 79, and that did not have any bots browsing, it was at christmas and for us it was quite an acheivement.
