I was blown away the first time I popped this into my PS2. This has to be the greatest game I've ever played. Whlie I will admit that the dialouge is a bit cheesy, the gameplay more than makes up for it.
Huh... It's a shame that not may people I know like these games. They are works of art. I can go from playing something like Metroid Prime to MGS2, and the graphics on MGS2 will be better. And MGS2 was voted #10 on top console graphics and Metriod Prime was #1.
My friend would rather play a game like Shrek 2 instead of MGS3. Thats a bit shallow.
I Just started playing MGS about what....6 months ago? And in that time I have become a RABID fan. I got MGS3 the day it came out, and I also bought MGS: TTS. Even though Twin Snakes is almost the same as MGS one, I'm still gonig to TRY to find the original.

What about Raikov? Does he *ahem* remind you of Raiden?

I did think that the overall graphics and cinematics in SOL were better, but SE beats in in gameplay. When I played SOL after SE, I kept pushing the right analog stick hoping to move the camera...

Dammit, I can't ask people to find Raiden now, hehe. Actually, you pretty much are Raiden right away when you first have that mask on anyway. Its probley hinting at some sub plot for later titles?

LOL I've gone off on GT now it's MGS turn. Without doubt this is the worst of the series. I hear MGS I think high tech spy based milatry gaming. Not jungle bound snake eating. Now I was willing to give the new local the benefit of the doubt but having played it I can say that whilst the game looks beautiful and the cut scenes are without doubt the most cinematic to date, except for the opening FMV that crappy James Bond style song is just a plain insult to the series, the gameplay itself is total mince.
The basic game play can be summed up in three phrases
1). Crawl a bit.
2). Switch to first person look around to make sure no one is there.
3). Repeat.
The setting is gorgeous and the removal of the radar would easily lend itself to a fully rotatable viewing system. What you actually get is a system that doesn't allow you enough viewing room to determine what is coming up and thus means you are forced to do the Crawl, look, crawl method.
Had this been a new concept it could be forgiven but games like Tenchu had the system nailed down years ago.
The controls are as fiddely as ever, three buttons at once just to fire in first person mode? This means doing anything quickly is out of the question. See how long it takes before you get mad with the double press needed to go from crawling to kneeling to running positions. Again this quick action system for this game type workled perfectly well in games like Tenchu, yet MGS just seems to make a dog's dinner of the whole thing.
So thats the main gameplay over with, what about everything else. Well lets put it this way, all the other additions are nothing more than stupid, time consuming vacuious wastes of time.
The camo system is a crappy rework of Splinter Cells light and dark system with the added annoyance of you having to constantly change camo.
The health and stamina system is another waste of time, firstly their is more than enough animals in the jungle, so you constantly have access to food. Which means having to refill the stamina gauge is nothing more than a time wasting pursuit. The old health bar and rations worked far far better. It's simple having to eat in real life is fun having to eat in video games isn't. It didn't work in GTA SA it sure don't work here either.
The cure system is another pointless waste of time as well. Select four different items push the button four times, well done your bullet wound is healed you can now have that 5% of your health back.
Everything about this game is about wasting time, from the pointless camo and health systems to the first time you speak to 'Boss' and find out that the long boring codec moments are here to stay, who the hell wants to listen to a five minute rant about what it is to be a solider?

Stop bytching like a 5 year old that just dropped his ice cream cone. And you saying MGS3:SE is worse, becuase on of your reasons is a five minute codec rant. I have to wornder if you ever made it past the first few mintues in MGS2:SoL then.

That's what I thought both MGS, MGS2 were littered with long codec scenes HAL was the worst for rambling on. Of course you could just press the triangle button and skip it if you dont' care about the story...

i thinkk from what ive played id have to agree with Sephiroth MK1 but i seem to enjoy those bad points he has put across, tbh when i play metal gear i just wanna hear the story line for the game, which will more than likly in this game give alot more info on the other games in the trilogy.
so thanx for ur opinion just don't agree with ya ;)

Um no, I never liked the overally long codec moments in the previous Metal Gear games. Hearing that the Codec was being done away with with the new 60's era setting lent itself to also getting rid of the long boring rants about nothing to do with the game. So I was somewhat shocked to find a rant last some five minutes after only five minutes of gameplay. I am pretty sure it took alot longer in the previous games before the first mind numbling boring Codec rant popped up...
and I was able to get past the overally long codec moments in the previous MGS games because the rest of the game was actually good. The sneaking and stealth worked quite well even when you took the option to turn radar off (although) it was a bit tough. In MGS3 it's just cr*p, sneak 5ft, look around, sneak another 5ft look around. repeat a million times. Sneaking about with a radar has been done a million times better by both Tenchu and Splinter Cell. So Iam amazed to find that the 'daddy' of Stealth games has managed to make a total and utter dog's dinner of it.

A simple tap of the triangle button removed the codec faster then lightening, btw there's also a motion detector (the radar) in your items list.

Iam aware of this, but you see this is were it becomes a problem, the core stories in MGS are quite good, so the parts that are related to the actual game are worth listening too. Plus quite a few of the codec moments relay info that is vital too progression.
It's simple I just didn't like this MGS, all the previous MGS games had their annoying faults but obviously they also had enough good stuff to keep me playing. For some reason I found more things wrong with this one and not enough good stuff to drive me on.
Which is a shame because I would have loved to have know what happened with Ocelot, seemed a bit of a t*at in the first few scenes I saw but he was easily the best character in MGS and MGS SOL so I really wanted to see what drove him to become the way he was.
