Ok this may seem like a stupid question but what does the fan in the computer do?

Cause mine seems to be dying a slow and painful death judging by the noise it makes.:(

he fans (or HeatSinks) cool the Processor of your computer, which makes it run.

Without it, your Processor will overheat, and break, within a few seconds.

Buy the biggest you can! I had an exhaust on mine, but it was a bit loud...

Thanks for the info.

Guess it's time to beat my boyfriend over the head until he replaces it for me then.:D

There is also a bigger fan on the PSU at the back. If you feel up to it, remove one side of the case and try to determine which one is the noisy one. Hard drives can also make quite a noise as they die.....:upto:

I know it's defently one of the two fans as we've opened it up to see where the sound was coming from.

I thought it might have been the hard drive at first as well it was a big releaf to find out that it wasn't.

And I never knew there were 2 fans will need to check this out further at the weekend me thinks.

Two fans? 'tis true! One on the CPU - on the mainboard, and one in the power supply - blows air out of the back of the PC. Some may also have one on the graphics card and also, as with mine, a 'chassis fan', which you normally fit yourself to increase ventilation.
So scope for plenty of fans........:D

The power supply is generally the noisiest.
I fitted a PSU and CPU cooler by a company at quietpc.com (no advert - this is assistance!) and the noise has dropped by a lot. Expensive, but top quality stuff.
