Well, I've been thinking about this whole thing lately, and I decided to look at the official website of this cult/ religion/ philosophy of rising popularity.
http://www.scientology.org/en_US/religion/index.html
Overall, it makes sense. When I read that I see a group working for the betterment and enlightenment on mankind as a whole, kind of like, Daoism mixed with Buddhism.
But then, theres this.
http://theunfunnytruth.ytmnd.com/
and...
http://theunfunnysequel.ytmnd.com/
After seeing those, it makes me think that maybe it is just a cult that has a few choice members that know what the real deal is. Kind of like, the Patriots from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and so forth.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Patriots
(I find The Patriots very interesting.)
I really don't know what to say about this, because I myself am not a member of the Church of Scientology. The views expressed by the text in the website make sense, as I see them as positive ways of becoming a better person.
But they could all be a lie.
So, I was wondering what your ideas about Scientology are. (Or rather, hoping to start up a healthy conversation or argument about it's legitimacy.)

Religion of any kind is a waste of time.
L. Ron Hubbard invented Scientology as a means to amke tax free money, which is still the 'churches' main aim.

That's what I got out of it, as well.
I also noticed that there are no longer signs of "Lord Xenu" and the philosophy of being put here by aliens.
Possibly as a means to make it sound less rediculous so people would be more attracted to it.
And watch this site get shut down by Scientologists and I get fined 5,000 dollars.
's all shiite.
Maybe I should put some of this on my website, get some hits. :)

Your personality has everything to do with your income, your future, your personal relationships, and your life.
Uh-huh. All about the moolah.
Hm, interesting question;
178. If you were involved in a slight car accident, would you really take the trouble to see that any damage you did was made good?

ARGH!! DIANETICS!
I had that crap pedalled onto me for about two years!!
==========
O... kay.
From the Wiki site it just looks like a shiite story invented by a man with no imagination.
=====
Hubbard uses the existence of body thetans to explain many of the physical and mental ailments of humanity which, he says, prevent people from achieving their highest spiritual levels. OT III tells the student to remove the body thetans by bringing them to awareness of themselves as individual beings: "One has to clean them off by running incident II and Incident I." The student is directed to find a cluster of body thetans, address it "telepathically" as a cluster and take first the cluster then each individual member of the cluster through Incident II, then Incident I if needed. Hubbard warns that this is a painstaking procedure, and OT levels IV to VII continue the long process of dealing with one's body thetans.
So... a pyramid scheme then.

In Scientology doctrine, Xenu (also Xemu) is an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs.
The moment I read that, I swear I said "What!" and proceeded to laugh out loud.

Not sure where you get pyramid scheme from, pyramid schemes are investment scams were a few people start a scheme then get others to invest who get others to invest until eventualy it collapses leaving many people ripped off and the few people who started it very rich.
That has in no way any simularity with scientology.
Although I think scientology is a load a bunk L Ron Hubbard is one of my idols, you cant help but admire a man who invents a religion and becomes obsenly wealthy from it, welathy enough to sail a flotila of his own personal navy of ships around the world crewed by girls in hot pants.
he also wrote some half decent books, I recomend battlefeild earth, although it was made into a rather average film, the books is pretty cool.

It all seems like there's some form of brainwashing going on here.
Either that or all Scientologists are just nutcases.

All religion has some degree of brain washing, christians are fooled into believing in the hairy fairytale wizard who did all sorts of wonderous things , it's no different to believing in thetans and xemus.

Join Church of Scientology.
Give them money.
Pay for 'doctrines' and all that other bullshiite they peddle.
Get others to join.

i'm sure it does, but a pyramid scheme is an 'Investment' scheme.
I.E people invest in the scheme with the intent of making a profit, secientologists give their money to the church because they have to and don't expect to get any moeny back from it.

Religion of any kind is a waste of time.
I agree totally, especially when you consider all the fighting going on in the world is the direct result of people's inability to accept different religons.

yeah, l.ron hubbard was a sci fi writer (a decently good one) that was overheard saying that the way to be rich, famous, and tax-exempt was to start a religion.
it's about aliens blowing us up with h bombs.
COME ON.
of course, all scientologists deny that hubbard ever said that
(so says wikipedia, so it is law)

;) Otherwise it would be just a treckiesque thing and would have no credibility. I assume any reference Hubbard makes to "Live long and prosper" s gone too...damn censorship!

I believe Manson "did his thing" prior to the whole Hubbard Scientology thing made it's huge debut on the scene. I could be wrong there though.

So you call "exact replicas" of 1960's aeroplanes... in space... credible?
