View Full Version : Great gaming accomplishments

For myself, I have only really had 2 that I consider noteworthy. The first came on the original Tomb Raider on the PS1, I managed to complete the whole game in 1 run through without saving once. Was not really intending to, but got to about level 11 not even thinking about it and finished the rest off no problem.

The second was on Final Fantasy VIII, also on PS1. I know a lot of people did this, but I was not that great at the FF games, my accomplishment on FFVIII was managing to beat Omega Weapon, took about 6 attempts as I had to find a good strategy. I remember I got a nice little message about being the greatest fighter in the world or something when I had done it, made me feel well chuffed.

Talking about FF I remember beating Ruby and Emerald weapons in FFVII for the first and a bucket load of trys was a absolute nightmare.

Trying to beat Resident Evil 2 in under three hours without saving and getting instantly killed by Burkin and having to start again luckily I did it on my second try.

Completing Ikaruga in the Gamecube without cheating, just finishing it I class as a accomplishment because it's possible it's the hardest game I've ever played and 2D shooters are hard by nature.

Something else I just remember unlocking the cheats in Goldeneye 007 (the infinite health and infinite ammo) doing the facility in something 1 minute 40 seconds and the archive in about 2 minutes or something 'tarded like that. I got so annoyed with the facility I gave myself a nosebleed (lol, how sad)

Finishing Shenmue - really long game - but very worth while.
I suppose finishing Shenmue 2 when I get round to it will be amazing as well.

Err... I can only think of the masses of hours I've put into Disgaea and the various Pokémon games; actual achievements are a bit thin on the ground.

*cough* bull**** *cough*

Lets see, I finished San Andreas, although not 100% complete.

Destroying every other civilisation and owning the entire world in Civilisation games.

Getting KotRT summon in FF7.

Finishing every FF game i've played (although again not 100% completed)

Well if that counts, I've done it. Also GTA3 and Vice City.

Who said it did or didn't count for anything?

The thread question is subjective, it's asking for what you consider an achievement, it is not bound by any "achievement rules" now is it.

BTW you do understand the difference between finishing a game and completing a game?

Loop

BTW you do understand the difference between finishing a game and completing a game?

Me? Of course I do.
And thus I call for someone to draw up some concrete rules on what is or isn't an achievement. Much like the 360 system, but retro.

Scarface
09-09-2007, 02:32 AM
There should probably be levels of achievement, starting with; made it to the first save point and ending with 100% complete.

Personally i'm not a 100% complete sort if guy, I just like to Finish games in the shortest time possible,

Loop
09-09-2007, 02:33 AM
If it's hard to get to 100%, odds are I won't be arsed to do it, especially if it's a game like GTA. I'll get bored, jack a car and fling it about a bit.

I got 100% in one of the GT games, not sure which.

But that's hardly an achievement, it's rather easy.

All my real accomplishements are in first person shooters online.

Rampages so exhilerating they cannot be summed up in words in a manner effective enough to hold an audiences attention.
I need some kind of video recording setup to do it any justice.

Suffice it to say I stalk people with mele weapons in shooting games.

:sarcastic
Bite me. I only play on PS1 and PS2. I will play a game until it is finished/caput/completed/done and 100%. I will admit that I have played far less than many here, but if I start one, I finish it.

Your accomplishments are impressive Scar. If I did not work, go to school on a regular basis, run a household and maintain a healthy relationship with a significant other, I might be able to complete more as well.
(I do concede that I am not raising a cute little girl in the interim....) I will never take that oblligation away from you as it results to your achievements.

Remember this?
I am playing GTA Vice City without the Shark..I suck at it....I sold my Shark on E-Bay..I WANT IT BACK!

You realise that if you have to cheat to complete a game, you can not claim to have completed said game.

Anyone can complete any game if they use cheats, it's not really an achievement now is it?

Sapphireruby

^I used the cheat for ONE game and I am now playing said game again sans any cheats. I am finally moving along nicely.

My greatest gaming achievement is saving the money for a N64 and Mario 64. I remember seeing Mario 64 in E3 A-G-E-S ago and my jaw hit the floor. I'd never seen anything like that before. And when I got it, unwrapped it and saw Peach's profile fade into the screen with a letter (which she READ OUT LOUD!) I was very, very excited.

And that was just yesterday (Boo-boom-ching!)

As for Sapphire, you're taking this way too seriously. Which is making this a very, very funny thread.

I've started games I couldn't stand playing for one reason or another and had to stop playing them so they're on my shelf collecting dust.

About the only thing I can claim is that I've completed some games without ever having to look at a walkthrough. :)

I... finished prince of Persia (the original one) within 17 mins...!!! (16mins and 59 secs to be exact) :) This way I am in the top 50 of the players who've finished the game quickly...

http://www.tammo80.nl/prince/ (look for Fankenstein - #37 yippie! :D )

Also i've finished GTA:VC 100% on PC (without cheats - although i reckon PC gamers have an added advantage of the mouse when playing FPSs or 3rd person games...)

Also, I've achieved Gold in all Licenses in GT4... (I just started to gloat... nevermind, wish i would have done it, at least got to the point where I have all B-license golds, yup)

ALSO, I have finished GTA SA 100%... now that should count for something... (I don't know how can one show others on net their ps2-saved games - show me)

Also, I tend to own PS-2 games that are really unpopular... like RPM-Tuning and the likes :D don't think that counts as an achievement though :wtf:

Nope, even though there is really only 1 place on the ring to wall ride (the carousel) I did not use it, nor did I cut any corners. I don't believe it is possible to go much faster, I really did fly round the course with no mistakes. I certainly don't think I can go faster anyway.

I have also now got all golds on the licence tests which kinda pissed my brother off, he did it himself ages ago and has been holding it over me since, even better was that it took him 3 days to do the last test on the S licence (nurburgring) and I did it first time while he was watching.

To be fair, for the first 2 licence's I took the easy way out and used the guide line, apart from the full races you have to do, the rest of them you have to rely on the ghost replay to show you where to improve. It is also possible to wall ride on a lot of the tests to get gold aslong as you don't smack them at 100MPH and have to start it again.

Will try next time i play GT. BTW, i don't know if its counts as an accomplishment but I've maxed out the power of each and every single car of my 341 cars collection in my GT4 garage... (installing all power related upgrades to each car, except those that can't be driven in races like the NIKE 2022 and the others) I just change their settings before the race if I want to drive them in their factory settings :)

For me that would take too much £££, I only buy a car when I have to, and I install minimum upgrades that enable me to win the race and get as many aspec points as possible.

It also makes many of the cars much slower. The Skyline can be given well over 1,000HP but it can't handle that much power so you spend most of the time oversteering off and then throwing rubber at the four winds whilst you wheel spin all that power in to smoke.
