So its release is imminent-ish.
Is it worth hunting down the first two to get a handle on the apparently-brilliant storyline?

Talmon
09-12-2007, 06:42 AM
There is a storyline?

Personally I am only intrested in the improvements in mele combat and shields.

The preternatural ability I possess in the area of mastering all forms of non projetile combat will no doubt help me.

Using said skills and improved weapon function in combination with my latent sneakyness to induce pain and inflict my sadistic brand of torture on my old college buddies will be a true joy.

There is a storyline?

I assume so, given the furore over the ending of #2.
And if Peter Jackson is making a film out of it, there must be SOMETHING there.

Talmon
09-12-2007, 06:47 AM
Money?

Loop
09-12-2007, 06:50 AM
Money doesn't come from nothing. Admittedly people will flock to it because it's both Halo and "from the bloke what did Lord of the Rings" but that can't recoup its massive budget, surely.

Talmon
09-12-2007, 06:53 AM
Yeah but will Kurt Russell even agree to be Master Cheif?

I mean no doubt it will be sucessfull, but it isn't because there is some masterful content there.

The story was developed as an afterthought to display the phyisics of the game I assume. Thats the way it has always felt to me, like they are making it up as they go along.

Having no notion of the story whatsoever beyond people in green suits shooting aliens, I wouldn't know.

I just wondered if it'd give me a more rewarding experience, having played through the previous entries.

Talmon
09-12-2007, 07:01 AM
Thats just the thing.

Everything other the men in green suits shooting aliens, is just sort of... frivilous flare.

Pretty standard fare, you work towards an objective. Then there is something larger and more complex that you didnt understand while completing that objective, that becomes your next objective. It's like a bad scavanger hunt in alien ships filled with identical rooms.

Its pointless paying for Halo 1 and 2 now mate. I'm not even sure it will work correctly on your XBox360 anyway because your not connected to Xbox live for the latest system update and backwards compatibility list. To be honest MS need to put more work into BC updates and it probably the one thing Sony have done better at for the PS3.

Do a little research be it wikki or whatever or youtube. Should give you a general idea of what went on. Come to think of it, I never really did understand the story behind the game o-O

If you wanna get a good idea of the storyline then just buy the novels, Read all three of them to date and loved them:thumb:

It is worth hunting down the first two to become more familiar with the gameplay.

When Halo3 comes out the advancements in gameplay will favour those among us who can immediately realize what those advancements are, and how they fixed our well established limitations.

Horray Energy Sword!

Mind you, I doubt the Spartan helmet would fit my fat head. Or survive ParcelForce's "transit".

Some may think I'm foolish but last time I ordered from play it was a week late, screw them.

I'm actually going to purchase a game from a "Bricks and Mortar" retailer.....

I'm getting mine from GAME online - cheaper and more reliable than Play.com.
I think Play.com have gone downhill lately in the customer service and speed of delivery department not to mention the fact that their prices aren't anything like as competitive as they used to be.

Hmm, will GAME be able to ensure i get the game on the release date?

I might have to pre-order it from there.

I'm getting mine from GAME online as well. Maybe I should pre-order a copy soon.

Edit: @Chappers: Well last time I pre-ordered from GAME online (call of Duty 3) it came before 9am on day of release!. Unlike HMV, took them a week to get Splinter Cell Double Agent to me...

Oh really?

Well, no it's not. Though an extra fiver to guarantee getting it on release?
... hm, I'll take my chances with Play I think.

I'm getting mine from play.com aswell it'll be here the day before release because MS ships there games to the shops early like EA.

Well Play.com ****ed me over for Bioshock.... didn't get it until the following friday, so much for shipping early.

GAME has my custom from now on, until they cock up like Play did. ;)

^ Yea they made a mistake apparently.

Anyway, got Halo 3 a day early and played some of the main campaign missions and so far so good. Gameplay is still up there as one of the best but don't expect the graphics to blow you away. Its the same Halo engine but in High Def thats about it really. The new weapons and gadgets are a nice addition however.

I hate, hate, HATE the Cortana level. Still bloody stuck on it.

Talmon
10-12-2007, 07:23 PM
The Flood is always a bitch on legendary.

could take the better part of a week or more.

keep at it and you will start to become epic at the slayer matches.

PS Playing with you is awesome - I am loving this Xbox live buisness.

I'm only on sodding Normal. ¬_¬

Talmon
10-12-2007, 10:51 PM
oh in that case.

Just hop through the level - rifle butt anything that gets in your way
and uh dont turn around for anything.

Nitrous
10-12-2007, 11:16 PM
Yea I finding running away helps a lot in this game :P

Talmon
10-13-2007, 12:54 AM
seriously on easy and normal you dont need to fire a single shot.

Loop
10-13-2007, 05:19 AM
It's those damned wall-mounted Flood that kill me.

Talmon
10-13-2007, 09:04 AM
seriously run and jump run and jump

move past them and they cannot shoot you.

Its the ones that chase you that sometimes beat me down.

Nitrous
10-13-2007, 08:27 PM
I think the best tactic for the flood (apart from running) has to be the shotgun. Wait until they get close and blow them away with the "boom stick"

Just a shame all the Elite armour is on Legendary.

Yes, about that. Would you kindly check and see if it's actually registered the final level as complete in Co-op? It hasn't on mine.

Chappers
10-16-2007, 01:42 AM
Me and my mate spent the whole release day playing it, completed it in about 5 hours. Obviously on Normal, was ok. My 360 is still battered so i have not had a chance to play it on the harder levels. The multiplayer element is pretty much the same with all the yank kiddies kicking the crap out of me.

Some things just never change.

Talmon
10-16-2007, 02:25 AM
I'm not a kid but I will gladly work you sometime.

Chappers
10-16-2007, 01:08 PM
Once my 360 is repaired ill get your game tag and we can battle it out.

Be warned I have Brit lag..... I can never be too sure whether thats a good or bad thing when it comes to halo.

Talmon
10-16-2007, 04:41 PM
Well let me put it this way...

A fellow from leeds wanted to put a sword through my belly - but he ended up clear on the other side of me.

I was facing his back so i tapped him out with my rifle butt.

Upon review of the film - I saw his little guy blink out of existance 2 feet in front of me, then re-appear behind me teleportation style.

Loop
10-16-2007, 05:32 PM
Ah, no wonder you're dishearteningly better than me then.
As an aside I played two games of Big Team last night and at least one of them was against Bungie employees.

DrakoBarton

Single player story was a letdown in terms of length. Online...i still don't like the fact that when people melee or use the energy sword they skip literally 6-10 feet and get the kill.

Talmon
10-17-2007, 02:49 AM
You fail to appreciate the skill it requires to get within range for a melee atack.

In online play I stalk people with said weapons - but it is so exceptionally difficult that unlike in halo2 i am actually utilizing balistic and energy weapons.
