Gran Turismo - PS1
Developer - Polyphony Digital (PD)
Released- Japan 1997
For more Info on the series and time line of GT see Wikipedia
Picked up a pre-owned original release of GT1 this morning for just £3 and even though it doesn't look half as good as I remember it being its still as enjoyable as it was 10 Years ago but rather than play it on a PS1 I'm playing it on a PS3.
I'm currently hitting the silver medal times for the license test and should have them completed later this afternoon. Switching from this back to the GT5P demo from the Jap PS3 store though really shows just how much the series has moved on in terms of graphical detail.
Edit: I would have been about 10 years old when GT1 was first released....

First time I saw Gran Turismo was on an episode of Gamesmaster on Channel 4, it was amazing although the car they were driving was not, a TVR Griffith I think. Gameplay has not changed much at it's core, but the tuning aspects have certainly improved over the years, and of course the graphics are much better.

Well to be honest their ain't a great deal you can do with a driving game that is trying to do real but I wouldn't agree with the tuning options having gotten better. The core tuning options are the same as they have always been turbos, engine, sus, tyres etc but does anyone remember that in the first two games you could buy a car as a second hand scrapper and then mod it in to a full on racing car complete with racing decals and body work.
Almost all the cars had a racing body that could be purchased but they dropped them from 3 onwards and introduced bespoke racing machines instead.

Do remember that, was one of the most fun aspects of 1&2, more so in 2 as there were a lot more cars that could be 'visually modded', was a great laugh on some of the older cars to see how they looked with racing stripes.
Not sure why they left it out the PS2 versions, space limitations perhaps.

Yeah that's what I thought but GT3 had a fraction of the cars that GT2 had and then they upped the car count for GT4 so I dunno.
... and introduced bespoke racing machines instead.
I'm going to ban the word bespoke.

GT4 apparently used a dual layer disk or something. The read/write surface looks different and my old brick style PS2 had problems reading it.
Played GT1 a few times now but I just remembered that I hate the SS Route 11 track. Tight twisty and in the dark... I hope that track never returns for any other GT game in the future.

Thing was gt3 was only on a single layer DVD whereas gt4 was dual layer, maybe they didn't know how to make dual layer games when gt3 came out.:wtf:

Well you'll have to come up with a bespoke word to replace the word bespoke...

I think the franchise is dying, maybe they should take the game engine and go in a new direction with it, street racing for instance seems to be popular right now, they could essentially keep the core dynamics of the game but change it to a street racing scenario, rather than track racing.
I mean, how many times can you drive around Grand Valley Speedway, Apricot Hill or Autumn Ring before it starts getting boring?

Nope the game ain't dying. I just download the HD Concept demo for the PS3 and didn't put the pad down until I had done everything in it. I nearly had an apoplectic fit when I finally got to drive the Ferrari 599.

@Laughing Man: Make yourself a Jap Account and download the GT5P Demo. It's much much better than the HD Concept demo. Oh and did I menstion it has an in car view :D
If you don't know how to do make said account then PM me and I'll send you over the guide I used for the translations and the rest of it. I also setup a US account.
