See,s Spore will require activation every ten days. So put in context that's another highly anticipated game that will no doubt be hampered by another load of totally boll*cks anti-piracy software.

I had trouble with both Bioshock and Crysis, the anti-piracy on Bioshock conflicted with the anti-piracy on Medievil TW2 Kingdoms, and required that MTW2K be uninstalled before it worked. Crysis on the other hand just plain didn't work.

In the history of entertainment every that's EVERY single form of anti-piracy software has been broken. The result is the pirates get what they want and the honest consumers are the ones stuck trying to get a game they paid for working on their system.

The reality is that piracy has been about as long as the entertainment they pirate has and yet the games, music and film industry are still there. If they produce something that is truly good then people WILL pay for it. If they insist on punishing the honest consumer then I will punish them by keeping my money in my wallet.

I'll get it. I'll just wait for the hackers on steroids to circumvent the phoning home.

Thing is, isn't spore an online only game? You will have to get a valid auth key then from the Spore site. How many people have real WoW accounts using a generated cd-key? None that I know of. You can download certain games like Diablo II or F.E.A.R. and play offline, but without a valid key, you can kiss online goodbye......unless......

Private Server anyone?

In a word, no.

Hmm, guess the previews I have read are false then. I read the purpose of the game was to compete with other players with their creations.

There is an online element, the one that you describe, but the game will also function as a stand alone game.

Simultaneous multiplayer gaming is not a feature of Spore. The content that the player can create will be uploaded automatically to a central database (or a peer-to-peer system), cataloged and rated for quality (based on how many users have downloaded the object or creature in question), and then re-distributed to populate other players' games.

So yes if you have the net and so wish, that aspect of the game is available, otherwise the game is still perfectly playable out-of-the-box, without a net connection, albeit with less happening in your "universe".

What's that? A legitimate usage of peer to peer?! Unpossible!
Let's hope my ISP hasn't "cracked down" on it by then.
