View Full Version : Spore Creature Creator
Ahahahahaaaa! With a bit of 'net fenaglery I managed to get the trial version a few days early!
As soon as I figure out how I'll post the little beauties I made. I urge you all to do the same.
I'm sure that by now you could just use popular search engines and torrent it... or wait three days and get it from Spore.com (http://www.spore.com), but hey, post your beasties!
... and no giant walking penises, already seen them.
They tend to wobble quite realistically.

You know if you post the thumbnail image thing, that's the creature in its entirety. :vacant:
Edit: This was my first Creature made. It's not without its charm, I think.

Spore!
... still downloading ...
Looks like a Poke'mon.
So just what is this program?
Essentially it's an alien maker, released in anticipation of the main game, mostly to provide the player with a universe populated with creatures created by other players.
In brief, you start out with a blob for a spine, and you make it into a... thing.
I'm off to play now so maybe i'll knock up a sort of walkthrough. Maybe.

.......So it's like an MMORPG except...... different? With spores?

If you play it, everyone will think you're a fun-guy.
Get it. Spore. Fun-gi
No, it's like an MMORPG, without other players. But their creations inhabit your game's 'universe'.
And basically it's a game about evolution - you start as microbes, and evolve into creatures, who grow vehicles, cities, UFOs...
This creator deals with, I suppose the middle part of the game.
Anyway, I made a creature for us. Observe, the creation of GeeGee! :
http://www.loopcorp.co.uk/images/spore01.jpg
Here we see the first blob the game gave me. Couldn't be bothered changing it, I'll morph it myself.
http://www.loopcorp.co.uk/images/spore02.jpg
I stretched his spine a bout, moved the orientation, gave him a beak. It on;y now occurs to me that I cropped out the plethora of options available at each stage... oh well.
http://www.loopcorp.co.uk/images/spore03.jpg
I gave him bendy legs, arms, 'wizened' eyes and some sort of antenna. Oh, and arms. In case you can't tell, those are positioning circles. Clicking and dragging those changes the orientation of his hands.
http://www.loopcorp.co.uk/images/spore04.jpg
Yes, that's a hammer on his arse. A bloody huge one.
Also shark fins.
I changed the beak out too, to some sort of hose-like expression. This is how I always pictured Allwrighty, only standing victorious over the broken body of an OAP.
http://www.loopcorp.co.uk/images/spore05.jpg
The antenna clipped into the shark fins a bit, so I decided to just have the one fin, putting the antenna onto his legs. Also I gave him horns. Ooh, and nostrils.
http://www.loopcorp.co.uk/images/spore06.jpg
And here he is with the first skin I could be arsed to click on. Ordinarily you'd pick between different colours and textures on three different levels; I just skinne dit with the scheme of a pre-existing creature.
The shark fin wobbled about something fierce so I removed it entirely, just stuck on some bony spine things instead.
Alright for about 5 minutes work, took more time taking the snaps to be honest.
======
Oh, if it's not clear, the reason why this game is so anticipated is because of its procedural animation - basically depending on where you put the arms, legs, head etc the game works out how your creature should behave. Pretty clever.

Hammerarse!
That's right!
If anyone else fancies, you know, actually giving the creator a shot, please do. Else i'll just suggest that whatever you make you tag with "gamers-gateway.com", and your username here.
Because.... well, why not? Given how popular this game is, we make good creatures, they appear in-game, people check out their profile and hey, publicity!

All this sounds like a lot of effort.

We really are desperate for new members huh?
All this sounds like a lot of effort.
Well I won't bloody suggest anything that has the potential to reach thousands of gamers in the future.

Not having a go mate just sounds like a lot of effort to me being such a lazy bastard.
Well if you're the kind of person who wants to play this game, it's an extra 20 seconds typing out gamers-gateway before you publish your little monster. Meh.

Ok got it.
But I am a bit suspect about this, the install seems dodgy.
For example the first time I tried to run the install Avast picked up on a virus.
Although subsequent installs have picked up nothing so I don't know about that.
But when installing something called s_kill.exe turns up in the task manager and tries to connect to the internet and the install wont proceed unless you allow it to connect to the net or you kill the process.
I killed the s_kill.exe process and the install completed.
I cant seem to find anything on the net about this s_kill.exe
Otherwise its working but I dont know how to find these .png files loops speaks of.
EDIT:
I'll just do it the old fashioned way, I introduce to you, The ****tard!

This unique creature has a head on each side of its arse, one leg and breasts.
