If this thread was an episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle, the second title would be "More of the Same"
Buying games can be tricky sometimes. You want to buy something that is going to be good, so what do you look for? Stuff that's worked in the past, revamped, or made into a sequel. Sometimes it works in your favour, and you get more of what you love. But sometimes....it's just the same, you know? Maybe there is nothing wrong with it....but you've already done it.
What are some good games that you will buy again and again, and which games don't repeat so well (maybe you can't help but buy them anyways) ?
I'd say that even though I've purchased every Megaman Battle Network game (just the main series, not Chip Challenge) since the first sequel, this is a classic example. The series went from Megaman BN to MMBN 5 (numbers 4 and 5, by the way, had two different versions, a la Pokémon), and has now become Megaman Star Force (and its sequel, each with 3 versions). And they're all the same!
And what about rhythm games? Maybe this is just me, but when I play a new series of rhythm games, I tend to heavily prefer the first game of the series I play. I get less value out of the sequels, even if they offer more functionality. Take Guitar Hero. I own GH2 and GH3, but I tend to play more of GH2. I think the problem is that when I got GH2, it was my first GH, so I played through it on easy, medium, so on. By the time I reached GH3, I had reached Hard (sometimes Heavy), so technically....I got less out of it.
What do you think? Which games rock/suck at this?
