i reckon the problem is that Sprinkles and butterknifemeca have slow pc's
Could be.
It takes only a few minutes to get 5mb over a 56k. Or at least it did the last time I downloaded anything.

On average, mine takes about 1 hour to download a 10Mb file, so, from that, I can usually guess how long certain files take.

No I think it's just that he doesn't strictly mean 'a few minutes' when he says it.
Trust me, I'd know if I had Broadband.
OK, I just meant it doesn't take me three hours to download something as small as 1mb.

I hate dial-up connections. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it. There is no prospect of any sort of broadband coming here for at least a couple of years - godammit! it takes soooooooo long for a web page to load I could scream. In fact, I spend more time waiting for pages to download than I do reading them.
And so many sites are dial-up unfriendly, aren't they? Loads of pointless graphics........ If a site is for information only, why the heck don't they have text only? Eh? :wtf:
Every time I go on the net, this is the procedure (I'm on 56K dial-up)
Click dial-up
Whilst modem is dialing open 3 windows and select required pages from favourites. New dial up window opens.
When 1st dial up has connected, click dial up on the 2nd one so that the 3 opened pages work.
Wait at least 2 minutes for the computer to unfreeze:D

That sounds awfully complicated.........
What I do is this:
1. Click on the AOL icon, wait 13 minutes for the program to load.
2. Click 'connect'.
3. If connection = 1 goto 4; If connection = 0 goto 6.
4. Browse!
5. End.
6. Reboot.
7. goto 1.

Lol @ Lee's Dad. And you're always praising AOL!
My 56k has a split personality. Sometimes works like a dream, and I could (almost) think I had broadband. However, most of the time it stinks.
And mine?
Well, when it's NOT gallivanting off to do it's own nefarious schemes, it sometimes decides to go to sleep, when it will NOT send or recieve any information after I connect.
The actual Connection process is simple enough:
Click on IE toolbar shortcut.
Wait for window to open, with the connection box.
Click Connect.
Wait for the connection to freeze halfway through.
Click Connect.
Browse.
Wait for PC to freeze, and reboot.
Lather, rinse*, and repeat.
*= Yes, it does indeed take THAT long for the PC to restart.:(

lol i'm so happy that i got DSL:upto:
I can tell you now, if you've got a 56k modem, don't go to MSN/MSN Gaming Zone unless you want to wait for 5 mins for the page to download.:D Seriously, the site is made of pictures . What's the matter with them? Do they expect everyone to get MSN Broadband? :D

Cast your minds back about 6 months, when broadband was a LOT more expensive. Well I stupidly made the mistake of changing over to NTL for their dig-tv and dialup offer thingy.
Now scoot on forward 4 months, government forces BT to begin price drop.
Keep going till present day, broadband is available at a slightly more expensive price than I pay now.
I think, in reflection, that my Karma sucks. I must have been Atilla the bleedin Hun to be this unlucky, or Jack the flamin' Ripper.
I ask myself why is God punishing me as I sit here on my slow-slow connection playing online games with people who can react compared to me as fast as a hare reacts compared to a sheep.
Argghhhhhhh.
I hate 56k. I hate being limited to 1/20 of a megabyte a second. Grrrrrrrrr. Lurvly computer, cruddy connection - its the bane of my existence.

No, my PC is a 750Mhz Athlon Processor. Not all that nowerdays, but not slow at all. Quite quick, in fact.
