:D Grand Theft Auto III :D

I bought this yesterday, and I am not at all disappointed. No, it's not perfect, but it's still a wonderful achievment.

I spent so long walking around with my baseball bat, beating the crap out of people and stealing their money. Top-down it looks like GTA as we know and love it. Steering with the stick feels a bit weird, but it's generally fine. In 3D, it feels exactly like Driver. Even the cars seem to handle in a similar fashion. And some of the missions are very similar.

Time progresses in the game as you play it, and day turns to dusk turns to night; the weather changes, raining one moment, bright and sunny the next.

There seems to be fewer types of vehicle to steal, and the city zones are smaller; paint-shops and bomb-shops are scarce as are weapons. That's how it feels after one evening of play. Maybe things will feel better after further play.

It's flawed, but fantastic, fun. It's well worth getting!

I got up to go get it but it was pissing down with rain so I didn't bother.:(I will get it next week though.:D

Do you have a choice to play it top down or in 3D or is it an automatic thing?

By pushing the SELECT button, you flip between a number of camera positions:

Third-person (normal)
Third person (closer, lower)
Third person (even closer, bit lower)
First person (yay!)
Cinematic (in-car ONLY: impossible to do anything: the camera changes all the time!)
Top-down (looks great)

AND you can flip at any time, the action does not stop! You can even have different cameras for different environments. If you 're on foot, you may wish to use the third-person view; whilst on foot, you may prefer top-down. There's no set-up menu, it just remembers! AND I understand that you can "train" your character to run further. By regularly running around (using the "run" button, d'oh! ), the guy gets better at it and therefore able to run further.
-------------

Tip: low on health and no medkits in sight? Pick up a prostitute, wait until she gets in and drive off. Your money will begin to decrease. Make haste to a secluded spot (or your hideout) and stop. Do NOT leave the vehicle. Moments later, the vehicle will sway from side to side. Your cash drops while your health increases (beyond 100%). As soon as you've, erm, had enough, leave the vehicle and the lady of the night (or lady of negotiable affections, whatever) will also get out. If you're a really sick bastard (ha!), you will then bludgeon the young woman and steal her money. But, of course, you're not like that, are you?

Another thing,is it better than driver?Or are they too different to make a comparison on?

There are times when Grand Theft Auto III feels exactly like Driver - especially when played in 3D and during certain missions.

It's difficult to compare the two. I think Driver was inspired not only by car chases in movies, but also by the original Grand Theft Auto; and it turned the game on its head and gave it focus. It now seems that Grand Theft Auto III is repaying the complement. Thus far, I get a sense that I am going somewhere instead of just getting enough points to proceed to the next city. There's a plot. This means the free-roaming do-what-you-like element of the game becomes like an idle past-time - something to dabble in when you're stuck in a mission.

It wouldn't surprise me if Driver 3 has some top-down graphics in it, if only to prove my point!

Is there any particular format you want it in? Do you have a template? Wanna email something to me? I'll give it a go!

My m8's got it, I'll visit him sometime :D and have a look on it. I wonder how it's like, since it's 3D, and all others were Top-Down only :D
btw, I noticed ont GTA and GTA2, that it's GREAT fun, but only for about a week or two, coz you'll then have discovered all weapons 'n tanks, 'n stuff, I'm curious how that's w/ this one......
