This is really makin' me mad............
Ok I have a PS2. I bought it in March of 2001. It worked fine for a while, but it didn't read some of my dvd's for some reason. I asked around and found that the PS2 doesn't read some dvds so I passed this off as normal. Now for the past 2 weeks it hasn't read dvds or any PS2 or PSone games. I put a disc in and it attempts to read it then the screen goes gray and reads 'disc read error.' What's going on here? I want to get it fixed because I am a fan of the playstation systems even though they're screwing me now. I looked on the playstation homepage and they want $120 plus shipping to fix it. I can't imagine the problem costing $120. On top of this I can't get an answer from anyone on what the problem is. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Dave

my m8 had that trouble .. he use to have his ps 2 on the side .. with that stand thing .. with him the ps 2 wouldnt read dvd's .. and some of the games .. so he took it off the stand and put it flat .. then it was ok 4 a bit ... then it went again.. so he took it back to the shop .. and they tould hin to get a cd cleaning kit .. and it's ok now .. so try and run a cd cleaning disk in it .. then try a game .. it might work

Can you not simply take it back to the shop you bought it from?

It does sound a bit like the laser reader is out of alingment, perhaps this is a design flaw with the PS2.

My disc tray went weird so i rang sony up and they replaced it!!!dgerjets32 look in the bak of any game manual and it give you a help line, they'll run you through a couple of tests and then asses it on the phone, if there tests dont work then they'll say u can have a brand new ps2 or you can have your old 1 fixed up 4 u!!!

with a screwdriver and some poking, you can adjust the power output of the laser, this may help, but i realy wouldnt reccomend it. you'd be better off contacting the helpline.
