Anyone else get this problem?? Why is it when people rip a song to mp3 and submit it for upload via audiogalaxy or suchlike, they either don't check the quality, practice extremely amateur editing, or do it at a stupid bitrate such as 128. why not 192?? There is an audible difference but not much bigger file size.
Also, I ain't finished yet. Why the f**k do idiots rip dance tracks from those pathetic mix-CD's, having to chop the beginning and end off, expecting it to be of some use to somebody?
I wish people like these would NOT do it as it is simply bunging up the system with shyte copies. Leave it to those with the proper CD singles and duplicate that.
And are there really that many crap CD players around? A good 20% of songs are ruined because they jump, skip and miss all over the place. Are they completely oblivious to it all?? AAARRRGggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
O.K., I know they're free and all that, but it still wastes a heck a lot of time.

Yeh,i've had loads of songs that jump, crackle and are poor quality. It's a bitch because you spend ages downloading them and to have one bit skip or whatever pisses you off.
Hear, hear! thumb

What do you use ? any hints ?

I get pissed off with heavy music when it's encoded in mp3/wma.
It isn't the audioquality but it's harder to make out all the different things in the background and sometimes the vocals are too. It doesn't really spoil the music but it's annoying when you can't hear those subtle things that help make the song what it is.
I use CDex wth LAME's mp3 encoded or whatever to rip my cd's.
I think my version of Windows Media Player doesn't let me rip at higher than 90k or something not sure.
I've only had a few mp3s with skipping in them. But i have had stuff like the songs have been rocrded from internet radio... and encoded at 192. A big watse of space when it was streamed at 21kbps.
AW: Lots of programs don't support ripping above certain bitrates, usualy 128 but Real Jukeboxes is 92 and it doesn't even rip them right. Flash can't import mp3s encoded with Real Jukbox :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one having trouble!!
AW, I don't have much need to compress audio, but when I do, I use a freeware program called dBpowerAMP, search for it by name, as I can't remember where it came from..... it converts between .wav, .wma and .mp3, lame and blade, supports bitrates up to 320, plus variable bitrate, and is quite quick.
As for ripping, I use Adaptec's Easy CD 4. to extract audio as .wav first. A 2 stage operation, but results are good.
Hugh Jass, many people say they can't tell the difference, but with 'lossy' compression bits of the music are removed, and it is exactly as you say, it's the subtle bits like a background instrument here, a bit of distant reverb there, which go walkabout. To be expected I suppose, when you reduce file size to one tenth of what it was....
Maybe we should start a campaign - RIP - the Rip It Properly campaign. What say?? :wtf: :D :jestera:
PS: AW, I could e-mail you the file if you are able to recieve it, it is about 4.5 Mb un-zipped. I would zip it first of course....
Well, I managed to down;load WinMX off that site, and install it.
Now I just gotta think of something to download... :head:
If you use dbpowerAMP you have to install a codec if you're going to use .WMA.........oops, I forgot we're talking about MP3 here :D
