Where do you get your Region 1 DVD's. I ordered Final Fantasy The Spirits Within from Amazon.com in October and I still haven't got it. I got an e-mail saying it was dispatched on 30th Oct but still nothing.

How long does it usually take you to get yours?

I orded a cd a few weeksago. it Took 10 days for them to get my order when it was sent first class then ti took them two weeks to get in new stock. The post is getting delayed I think. Extra security due to Anthrax probably.

Cheers Hugh Jass! I didn't think there would be this much of a delay though, but I would say you are right.

Damn those bloody terrorists anyway!!

It also depends on which shipping option you chose. Delivery can take up to 28 days. Have you tried shopping at Play 24-7 (http://www.play247.com)? They do excellent deals, and there is no shipping charge AND they're based in Europe.

Why didn't I find Play24-7 earlier, far better than Amazon. Anyways I got my DVD's yesterday, they seem to have been shipped to Frankfurt first for some reason, but I will be buying from Play24-7 anymore.

Cheers Ronnie!!

No, I live in the UK, and I prefer things to be LEGAL.

I think the legal side is this:

They have to install some type of protection against piracy of DVDs, and regions are a good way of locking out anything that doesn't have the proper code.

However, multi-region DVD players are still legal, because they still stop pirated DVDs (I think).

I'm not sure on this, just guessing.

Anyway, if it were illegal, Datel wouldn't be making DVD Region X!

//Matt begins to think//

Ah! I think I may have worked this one out (if the above isn't right):

Companies legally have to install region lock-out on DVD players, but it's NOT illegal for 3rd parties to overwrite this lock out with software or a device. Don't know why, but I think THIS is the case.

Then again, it's all mere guesswork.

Eventualy it will be made illegal like modifing your console or buying a rip off 'action replay' from Tiawan has been. But it's a very 'grey' area of the law.

My thought on the matter: modifying the player is NOT illegal - it only invalidates the warranty; buying pirate copies of DVDs is illegal. It is impossible to prove that modification of the player has been done to facilitate the use of pirate DVDs.

Region coding is under investigation at the moment, to decide if its another way for certain organisations to rip us all off.
