Was browsomg Zdnet and came accros this in the details concerning Windows 7 licensing agreements.
Apparently anyone buying an OEM version of windows7 (just to clarify thats about 90% of all compters sold), agrees to this little gem.
Quote:
As with the royalty OEM versions, your copy of Windows is locked to the PC on which it is installed and cannot be transferred to a PC, nor can the motherboard be upgraded.
What this means that if anyone wants to upgrade their mobo for say gaming reasons or even if the motherboard fails and the exact model can not be purchased again, micro**** are going to require you to purchase a new W7 license.

It's only because they do not want people to modify their PC and claim warranty because it broke. Windows insures the parts that are in the PC, but nothing added on, because they honestly cannot account for it. Same thing goes for Xboxs, but that's more along the lines of hacking and pirating games more so than the thing bricking.
All this goes to show that, eventually you are better off buying a retail version if you insist on having a genuine version that is.

Not really sure what I meant by that, but what I mean is that moving the parts around may cause suspicion that it wasn't wear and tear that caused the computer to break.
