I know someone's been chirping about the books at me, but I saw this and wondered: How the hell does that work?
In a nutshell, the books are about "a battle against the church and a fight to overthrow God."
So for the movie version, they're going to remove all references to the church and God.
And note how Patrocles somehow became Achilles' "cousin".
Indeed, Alex... not to mention Briseis, who became much more than a mere war trophy...

Right indeed, Loop. But Hollywood changed it... I guess they thought it would affect the movie's performance. After all, you know how far prejudice can go...
It would be nice if they managed to release His Dark Materials with all the references... but oh, they won't be allowed. Guess censorship will live forever, huh?

It's 'The Clockwork Orange' all over again. Surely a film that provokes discussion is a good thing. Something that'll actually challenge the viewer. I found some parts of the books increadibly chilling. Goose bumps.
My Mum read it and she's a devout Christian. She loved it for what it was. A challenging and emotive journey. Unlike LotR but that's for a different thread...
